The 2021 incident was indeed a tragic affair, that forced the 15-time Major winner out of greens for a long time. And the niggling injuries from the mishap still bother the 47-year-old golfer. However, how the accident happened is also draped in mystery, with some claiming that Tiger Woods was busy on the phone or fell asleep. However, the controversial American author brushed aside all these.

The Tiger Woods accident that raised the author’s suspicion

Alan Shipnuck caused quite a firestorm with his new book ‘LIV and Let Die’. Moreover, he has also stirred the pot quite often while talking about his book in podcasts and interviews. In a one-on-one chat with Gary Williams of the Five Clubs podcast, the author made another speculation about Woods’ 2021 car accident. “It’s a dark day for Tiger Woods that nobody wants to talk about his car crash.

He was on a residential twisty street speed limit of 40 miles an hour, going in the mid-eighties,” says Alan Shipnuck. As per the police report, the car’s black box revealed that Woods pressed the accelerator with 99% force. Although most people claimed Woods was asleep, the 53-year-old author doubts it. “And that cannot happen if you were (sic) distracted by your phone. Or if you fell asleep as some people speculated.”

There were rumors that Woods was drunk, although police reports debunked those claims. Was Shipnuck insinuating at that? Guess, we’ll never know the real reason, as the author himself says, “And so something went wrong that morning for Tiger and we’ll never really know what it is because his inner self is this well-guarded fortress.

Indeed, Woods has shied away from speaking about the incident. However, that can be because he doesn’t want to remember the dark day. Nevertheless, the 82-time PGA-Tour winner is known for his reticence. His friend spoke about his introversion once, and the author himself wrote about it in his book. Interestingly, that’s not the only time Tiger Woods’ name found a mention.

Shipnuck dragged Woods’ name through the mud

“Tiger’s always been a loner,” said the author recently. According to him, it was because of his nature, that an entire generation of young people was not aware of his lasting legacy. Before this, the former Sports Illustrated authors also claimed that Woods was behind ousting Phil Mickelson from the private dinner before The Open in 2022.

Shipnuck claimed citing an insider source, that Woods rounded up a few former Major winners and convinced them that Mickleson’s inclusion in the dinner would make it awkward since his defection to LIV has caused a lot of controversy. Inevitably, Woods stamped his authority on the decision when nobody raised any objections.
